Privacy Notice

FairPlay Bowls · Last updated August 2026

FairPlay Bowls is a community handicap-management tool operated by the league committee. This notice explains what personal data we process, why, and how you can exercise your rights under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What we collect

  • Match results for players in the Birkenhead Evening League and Bebington League, sourced from the public Wirral league website (team fixtures, individual game scores, aggregates, and division standings).
  • Contact details you give us directly: admin access requests, competition entries (name, email, phone), and organiser accounts.
  • Push notification device tokens — only when you explicitly opt in via the notifications toggle.

Why we use it & our lawful basis

  • To calculate fair player handicaps and publish league statistics — our lawful basis is legitimate interest (UK GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). The league committee needs accurate handicaps, and the data is already published publicly on the league website.
  • To run competitions and manage committee access — based on the consent you give when entering, or a contract/admin role you hold.
  • We do not use your data for profiling, automated decisions with legal effect, or selling to third parties.

How long we keep it

  • Match history and ratings: retained for the lifetime of the league so handicaps remain statistically valid, unless you request erasure.
  • Admin access requests and competition entries: kept until the season ends and then reviewed for deletion.
  • Scrape logs: retained for 12 months for audit, then automatically purged.
  • Push subscription tokens: deleted immediately when you unsubscribe or when a token is reported expired by the push service.

Your rights

  • You have the right to access, correct, object to, restrict, and erase your personal data, plus the right to data portability.
  • To remove your player data, use the Request Removal form — we will verify your identity, purge your match history and ratings, and add you to a suppression list so your data is not re-imported by future syncs.
  • To correct inaccurate data, contact the administrator at the email below.

Contact & complaints

To exercise any of your rights, or to ask a question about how your data is used, contact the league committee administrator. If you are unhappy with our response you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
